Music for Young Children teaches your children all about music in a fun and educational way! This program is for children aged 2 - 9 and is offered in a group setting with similar aged children. The program lasts 3 - 5 years depending on the age of the child, with each year typically consisting of 33 lessons, which run from September to May. The lessons are scheduled weekly and an hour in length.
Group instruction enhances the development of listening awareness, fine motor skills, attention span, and social skills.
This program, developed by Frances Balodis, was built on the experience and knowledge gained working with children. Her understanding of learning styles and developmental stages has played a leading role in the development of the MYC, which is why children of differing strengths, interests and abilities can all find success with the program.
Parent Involvement:
There is an investment of time by both parent and child. A parent/adult attends class each week with their child. Parents are encouraged to spend time with their child reviewing material at home. Practice time is a lot more fun together and offers parents the opportunity to learn the material as well as enjoy and share in children’s success. Families are expected to have a piano or keyboard at home for practicing.
